San Remigio is the 4th class municipality, an interior town and is composed of 45 barangays. It is about 21 kilometers from the capital town of Antique, the San Jose de Buenavista. It has total land area of 33,650 hectares. Almost 70% of which are mountainous and the remaining 30% comprise the flat lowland and rolling hills. The municipality has devoted 4,781.5 hectares for agriculture. Out of this area, 4,437 hectares is planted with food crops; 103.5 hectares is planted with permanent crops and 241 hectares is devoted to commercial crops. As of 2001 households and population survey conducted by the barangay survey and population officers, 29,886 residents inhabit this municipality and 6,017 households. The survey on household members by major occupation shows that 30.57% are engaged in housekeeping; 30.48% are farming and 14.57% are unemployed (15 years old and above). Different associations and community organizations exist in the municipality, like civic organizations, non-governmental organizations and peoples organizations. Commerce in this municipality has improved after the completion of the Tipuluan Bridge and Sunday is the market day in the municipality. Commercial establishment will rise in San Remigio after the realization of the San Remigio-Leon Road. The municipality of San Remigio produced a total of 13,074.02 metric tons of palay in an area of 4,187.00 hectares of which only 22.00% are irrigated and the rest are rain fed and upland area. As of school year 1989-1990, San Remigio had been divided into two districts: District I and District II. Presently in District I, there are four (4) primary schools, fourteen (14) elementary schools, one (1) public secondary school and one (1) private secondary school. While in District II, there are sixteen (16) primary schools, nine (9) elementary schools and one (1) public secondary school. Non-formal education is also taught in both school districts. The Rural Health of San Remigio with its main Health Center is located in Poblacion, three (3) barangay health stations are the only health institutions the serve the health needs of the San Remigio people. Aside from forty five (45) Barangay Nutrition Scholars, health personnel include one (1) Health Physician, one (1) Health Nurse, nine Health Midwives and one (1) Sanitary Health Inspector. The transportation needs of the municipality is being accommodated by fifty (50) franchised holder and seventy five (75) public utility jeepneys plying the route of San Remigio-San Jose and vice-versa. San Remigio has a total network of 187.452 kilometers. Based on administrative classification 42.696 kilometers is municipal roads and 136.124 kilometers is barangay roads. There are eleven (11) bridges within the municipality with a total length of 321.391 kilometers. All of the bridges are bailey and found along the national road. San Remigio is also rich in natural resources like forest products, the bamboo craft, abaca craft, buri craft, metal craft and roofing materials. It has also different mineral deposits like gold, silver, copper, limestone, marble, clay, gemstones and a lot more. There are also different natural attractions like the Igbaclag Cave, the perfect cave in the “Little Baguio of Antique”, Bato Cueva, Kanyugan Cave, Magpungay Cave; the crystal clear ice water falling from Pula Falls, Timbaban Falls and Batuan Falls, the lakes of Maylumboy and Danao; the legendary stone of Datu Sumakwel, Bato Bintana and White Castle Stone and the mountain ranges of San Remigio.
